New National Online Community Supporting Adults (18+) on the Autism Spectrum Across Australia
A new Australian initiative, Aspire Clubhouse, has launched to support adults on the autism spectrum aged 18 years and over who are seeking structured opportunities for participation, learning, and employment preparation.
Australian Bureau of Statistics data (2022) indicates that 42% of adults on the autism spectrum are employed in some capacity, highlighting the participation gap that can occur across adulthood.
Founded by former special education teacher Martine Black, Aspire Clubhouse was developed in response to the reduction in structured opportunities that many adults on the autism spectrum experience after formal education.
The online platform provides a predictable and supportive environment designed to reduce common barriers such as transport challenges, unfamiliar environments, and sensory overload. Participants engage at their own pace in activities focused on building routine, confidence and readiness.
Programs include:
Members contribute to program development through voting and co-design processes, supporting autonomy and community connection.
Aspire Clubhouse complements local government and community services by providing an accessible, affordable online participation pathway for adults on the autism spectrum nationwide.
Mission
Adults on the autism spectrum shouldn’t lose opportunity beyond formal education, they should build it.
